Frank: Van de Ven's future is with Spurs

Icon

Tottenham have no plans to allow Micky van de Ven to leave, with the club planning contract talks with the defender.

Questioned on the club reportedly placing a 100m-plus price tag on Van de Ven, Thomas Frank replied at his news conference on Thursday: "He's very important for us, so Micky's a Tottenham player now and for the future."

Quizzed on reports Van de Ven is unhappy at Spurs, Frank responded: "I've just seen Micky today. He seems very happy, smiling. He was very happy after the game that we won when he was in the changing room after the game.

"Micky's an excellent player; he's a fantastic ambassador for this club.

"He's having potentially his best season so far. He's fit, he's strong, good defensively, he's growing as a leader, scoring goals as well, and he's a very important player for us this season and for the future."

United ready to overhaul midfield in summer

Your Site News reporter Danyal Khan:

Casemiro will leave Manchester United at the end of the season, ending a four-year stay at Old Trafford.

The Brazilian midfielder signed for the club in August 2022 and United had the option to trigger a 12-month extension at the end of the season.

However, Your Site News understands United have decided not to take up that option nor renew his contract and it was decision made well in advance of today as they look to overhaul their midfielder in the near future.

The decision also gives Casemiro clarity for the rest of the season as he also prepares to represent Brazil in the World Cup in the summer.

As we have previously reported in the autumn, Casemiro is one of the highest earners in the squad and we understood it was unlikely United would renew his contract as the freed up wage capacity will allow more space for future investment/signings in the midfield area.

Casemiro has had a renaissance at the club in the last 12 months. After being out of the team under Ruben Amorim initially, he was praised by Amorim for his willingness to fight for his place and has been a key-part of the team since then he started the Manchester derby under Michael Carrick in his first game as well.

Looking ahead to the summer, as we have reported, Manchester United have an interest in the likes of Carlos BalebaElliot Anderson and Adam Wharton.

Latest from Your Site News' Tim Thornton and Sahil Jaidka:

Rangers midfielder Kieran Dowell is set to join Hull City.

The 28-year-old moved to Ibrox in the summer of 2023, but has made just 39 appearances in that time.

Dowell featured six times this season under former boss Russell Martin but has made just one appearance under Danny Rohl in the Scottish Cup.

Your Site News understands the player is in East Yorkshire for his medical and could finalise his move in the next 24 hours.

Man Utd confirm Casemiro will leave in the summer

Manchester United have confirmed that Casemiro will leave the club at the end of his contract this summer.

The Brazilian has played 146 games and scored 21 for the Red Devils since joining from Real Madrid in 2022, including 21 appearances this term.

The 33-year-old is currently one of the highest earners at the club.

"I will carry Manchester United with me throughout my entire life," Casemiro said in a statement.

"From the first day that I walked out at this beautiful stadium, I felt the passion of Old Trafford and the love that I now share with our supporters for this special club.

"It is not time to say goodbye; there are many more memories to create during the next four months.

"We still have a lot to fight for together; my complete focus will, as always, remain on giving my everything to help our club to succeed."

Smith confirms Charlotte interest in Elliott

Exclusive from Your Site News' Patrick Rowe:

Dean Smith has confirmed to Your Site News that Charlotte FC are interested in Aston Villa's Harvey Elliott.

Elliott joined Villa on loan last summer from Liverpool, a deal that becomes permanent if he players a certain number of matches. He has only featured five times across all competitions this season.

Smith visited his former club Villa, who he managed from 2018 to 2021, over the Christmas period and speaking to Your Site News about the possibility of signing Elliott, he said: "I put the feelers out, obviously, when I was over there. I was thinking about it and thought, there is an opportunity here.

"If he is not going to play at Villa and he can't play anywhere else, then it would be an option for him to come and play some games up until the World Cup break.

"If he is not playing between now and the World Cup, it is a shame. There is an opportunity for him to come out and play here if that is what Liverpool or Villa wanted to do."

Earlier this month, Unai Emery admitted Aston Villa "decided two months ago we were not convinced to sign him, spending the money we need".

The MLS transfer window opens on January 26, until March 26.

Andrews downplays chances of more transfers

Brentford boss Keith Andrews has admitted that he is open to doing more business in January, but has said the club won't force anything unless it is for the right player.

The Bees have already signed 18-year-old forward Kaye Fugo from Club Brugge this month, but it doesn't appear more additions are likely.

"In terms of another midfielder, not necessarily, no. I think the way we've gone into this window is, unless it's absolutely right, we will do it," Andrews said.

"Equally, it is a difficult window to get really quality signings in. We don't really need to force anything.

"We're certainly open to it [doing more business] if it feels right and the deal is there to be done for the right individual that compliments what we are and strengthens us in the medium-long term."

Le Bris wants Isidor to stay amid interest

Icon

Regis Le Bris stressed that Wilson Isidor is an important player for Sunderland following reported interest in the striker.

The 25-year-old has scored four Premier League goals for the Black Cats this season, but last struck in October against Chelsea and his latest start came against Manchester City at the beginning of December.

Brian Brobbey has since been the preferred option at the top of the pitch and scored the winner in last weekends 2-1 win over Crystal Palace, but despite reported interest in Isidor from other clubs, Le Bris insisted he is still an important part of Sunderlands goalscoring department.

He said: For Wilson we have many conversations with him and his agent recently. Hes a really good player, important for us and did really well in the past and for sure in the future as well.

We still have momentum and I think for Sunderland at the minute its positive to have Brian in good form and two strikers, Eli (Mayenda) and Wilson ready to go.

Its normal to have some difficult periods because they are still young, new in the league, so I dont know if its possible to sustain the level for a whole season in this league, so its just normal to have different periods.
